Licensing

Licence hand-drawn surface pattern designs for your project — from personal makes to full commercial production.

Licensing Terms

Clear, fair licensing for every creative use case. Understand exactly what you're licensing and how you can use it.

These are starting guides, not fixed prices. Every project is discussed and agreed individually.

This licence is for play, not pay.

You can use the pattern in your own home, for gifts, journaling, crafting, scrapbooks, wallpapers on your phone, or anything personal that makes life feel a bit brighter.

You just can’t sell anything made with it, share the file, or upload it anywhere others can download it.

Each purchase covers one pattern in one colour way.

Perfect for makers, hobbyists, and collectors who simply want to live with the pattern.

Guide pricing: from £50–£150 per pattern.

Drawn by hand, sold with heart.

This licence lets you create and sell small runs of products using the pattern, up to 100 items per product type. Ideal for Etsy shops, market stalls, and small online businesses.

You can print onto physical goods or use it in small digital products like templates or blog graphics.

The licence lasts 12 months and isn’t exclusive, meaning other makers may also license the design.

Guide pricing: from £300–£500.

For growing brands and bigger ideas.

You can use the pattern across full product ranges, packaging, marketing, retail and print-on-demand with no production limit.

All colour ways are included and high-resolution files are supplied.

The licence runs for 12 months and is non-exclusive unless we agree otherwise.

A good fit for established shops, manufacturers and product companies ready to scale.

Guide pricing: from £500–£800 flat, or 5–8% royalty on net sales.

Your space, your story.

This gives you sole rights to use the pattern within an agreed area, product category, or market for a set time.
While active, I won’t license it to anyone else in that space.

Terms vary depending on the project and are decided together.

I still keep copyright and portfolio display rights unless you choose a full buyout.

Guide pricing: from £800–£2,500+, or 8–12% royalty with a guaranteed minimum.

A design becomes fully yours.

You gain complete commercial rights including modification and sub-licensing.
I simply retain the right to show the work in my portfolio.

Pricing depends on usage scope and reach, and source files are included.

Guide pricing: from £2,000–£5,000+.

Credit is lovely but not mandatory.

For Personal and Small-Batch licences, a small mention like
“@fredalillyprints ” or a link to fredalilly.com is always appreciated where possible.

Exclusive and Buyout licences don’t require credit.

I genuinely love seeing where designs end up, so tags are always welcome but never required.

The simple version.

Please don’t:
• resell or share the pattern files
• upload them to marketplaces or download libraries
• train AI using the artwork
• claim the design as your own
• use the design in harmful or discriminatory contexts

Some advanced permissions like sub-licensing are only available in certain agreements.

If these rules are broken, the licence ends.

If you ask a printer, decorator, or manufacturer to produce items using your licensed pattern, please make sure they follow the same licence terms. The responsibility for how the design is used stays with the licence holder.

Licensing terms don't affect what I sell directly through my own shop, Spoonflower, Patterned, and Patternbank.

The Anti-AI Guarantee

Every single pattern, illustration, and design element you see here is 100% human-created. No AI generation, no algorithmic shortcuts, no synthetic content. These are hand-drawn, thoughtfully crafted works born from real creative practice, lived experience, and neurodivergent perspective.

When you licence a Freda Lilly pattern, you're supporting authentic artistry, not feeding a machine. You're getting original work with soul, imperfection, and intention baked in.
